Rough Start
Kind of a rough start to our season tonight. We played a team that has not won any games so maybe we were over confident..not sure. We started very hesitant the first half which kind of surprised me. I kind of thought coming into this season that our biggest obstacle seemed to be confidence. It is a big hurdle for an 11 year old but I have hope. I realize that winning helps with confidence quite a bit and I know that they will come. We need to concentrate on the things we did well tonight and work on the other things at practice.
Our second half started with the anticipation we would have the sun and the wind and if we scored early....the momentum. Defensively we looked very timid the first half and was not sure why. The second half we contained a bit better and kept the ball on their end. I felt like overall we outplayed them and out shot them but they out scored us. We did not help ourselves in that regard. I would like to see us pass better to feet and create space and we stood too much. Our formation this year is new. We chose it because it is the easiest to play and learn and it contains 10 triangles to teach the girls to play in 3's. Being that it is new, we have not adjusted very well and we collapsed our midfield nearly completely at times and left us defending many times 5v3. All in all, there is always another day in soccer and I really wanted to practice on Saturday but the girls bucked at that one right away and sounded like most were out of town or unavailable. Our next game is on my birthday so want nothing less than a win.
With the ground still like concrete, even after the rain, we had several girls injured and in tears. I think the collisions with the ground left some rather sore and marked up. Olivia has a sore back, Katie a sore hip, Calee a sore knee and Mackenzie sore ribs from being punched. Hopefully everyone heals up. Next time we play this team we will let them know we CAN play soccer.
