Ernie played AYSO soccer as a kid, then was a volunteer coach for at least 18 years.
Ernie coached many tournament and regular season games and was truly a father figure for all the boys. His patience, caring, encouraging and calm demeanor made the parents and the players become better versions of themselves and we always looked forward to another season with Ernie.
He was so supportive of all the kids equally, no matter the skill level. He came closer to the AYSO ideals than any other coach we had, over 15 seasons of my sons' soccer. Our time with him and the teams were some very happy times for our family and we really miss it!
"To assist the family at this difficult time, Joni Holdsworth, Ernie's long-time team parent has started a GoFundMe page to help out and will ensure any available funds make it to Ernie's family. Know that this fund raising effort is unaffiliated with Region 71 and the link is offered as a courtesy to those that want to help out a long-time volunteer to our Region and his family.

Ernie coached our son for many tournament and regular seasons and was truly a father figure for all the boys, one whom I as a father have tried to emulate. His patience, caring, encouraging and calm demeanor made the parents and the players become better versions of themselves and we always looked forward to another season with Ernie. Having triumphed over the much difficult challenges of dealing with dozens of teenage boys entrusted into his care.
